Job Description

The Territory Specialist – Firefighter Partnerships is an execution oriented, individual contributor fundraising role responsible for securing and growing new income, developing relationships with local firefighters, and working to expand MDA’s fundraising activities including, but not limited to, MDA’s core firefighter Community Engagement programs such as Fill the Boot.  He/She will work closely with the Regional Manager of Firefighter Partnerships along with the NVP of Organizational Partnerships to engage directly with fire departments and firefighter leaders to grow and expand a defined territory of fire departments’ fundraising dollars.  This includes existing departments, new union and non-union departments, as well as the implementation of new fundraising tactics that target firefighters. This role expected to collaborate with and take direction from the RMFFP and National Org Team to ensure best practices are being followed.  It is preferred that he/she work out of a local office as Additionally, he/she will be collaborating and working in concert with local district office and regional fundraising leadership.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Engaging directly with a defined territory of fire departments and prospective fire departments for targeted fundraising activity, and achieving distinct fundraising targets associated with those departments – generally within a single state, or within an area within a single state.
  • Implementation of Fill The Boot program strategic guidelines to achieve specific fundraising targets within a distinct geographical territory, as well as the deployment and implementation of new programs and tactics for maximizing fundraising revenue from volunteer firefighter fundraisers.
  • Responsible for effectively and efficiently completing activities and meeting target deadlines in order to achieve or exceed financial goals and execute successful Community Engagement events such as Fill the Boot and other fire fighter events, within the district business plan.
  • Exceed specific, assigned revenue goals and quotas specifically related to growth and new income sources within a specifically defined local territory.
  • Identify and execute best practices that result in growth of event revenue in alignment with income plans; drives standards of excellence and encourages innovation in Fill the Boot and other fire fighter events.
  • Create fundraising opportunities through various development techniques including prospecting, targeted follow-up, and new lead generation.
  • Deliver organized, structured, and persuasive presentations, to current/former/potential Locals, Departments.
  • Represent MDA throughout the designated territory/community and actively engage in networking events and business development groups with emphasis on the local IAFF and non-union firefighters.
  • Build relationships and accountability systems to ensure supporters are engaged and our mission is clearly articulated and understood.
  • Demonstrates ability to achieve stated fundraising targets on an annual basis
  • Manage expenses tied to Fill the Boot, and other fire fighter events, seeking to grow efficiencies and economy, wherever possible.
  • Assist in Boot camp preparations within assigned territory.
  • Work to develop and maintain relationships with fundraising volunteers for fire fighter events including training of volunteers for defined positions.
  • Drive potential business sponsors using effective written and verbal communication.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Business or Non-Profit Management preferred) and 2+ years of demonstrated fundraising, sales and business development experience with a track record of successfully meeting quotas and surpassing expectations or equivalent combination of education and work experience in sales and/or fundraising.
  • Ability to work independently and have high personal expectations of work product.
  • Ability to travel throughout the assigned territory as well as work evenings/weekends as necessary. Use of personal vehicle in the course of employment is needed to travel throughout territory. Significant local travel is required for this position; including visiting local business, sponsors, health care facilities, and events in public places. Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to manage budgets closely, both in income and expense.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use existing technology to achieve desired results.
